Artist's StatementI like to think that everything has its place, composing a bigger picture: a world of balance and harmony, where the individual and the universal, the rational and our true nature, the knowing and the doing, can come together. The geometry of the straight line, the square, and the rectangle, arranged asymmetrically, and the predominant use of primary colors with black and white, is my way of contemplating with consciousness. My work lies where ingenuity and harmony meet; to serve a purpose but with beauty.
I am continually seduced by glass’ transparency; the light plays with colours and textures so that each stage in a piece’s creation is visible. Fusing together layers of glass brings depth and new colours, and I further enhance this by adding grisaille. Once the slabs are fired, the glass and grisaille are united forever.
I like the amalgam and layering not only of different techniques but also of the many, small interdependent elements within a piece which fit neatly together to form a unified whole. My pieces are integrated into a structure or mounted on metal. It is my sincere desire to share my passion through teaching and public art projects.
